Virtual gingerbread house competition
The tradition of making gingerbread houses has become a family event at Christmas in communities across the world. Now you can help support our community while having fun creating your own gingerbread house by participating in the 2nd Annual PWC Gingerbread House Competition.
This contest is open to individuals, family, and businesses residing in Peachland. Think of all the fun you can have creating your “gingerbread masterpiece”. You can register into one of four categories:
• Individual (Adult) or Family
• Child or Children
• Non-profit Organization
Due to COVID-19, this event will be virtual. Instructions on how to register, or participate in the voting process, are detailed on the Peachland Wellness Centre website. Sign up now! Anyone interested should register by Friday, December 4th.
Prizes will be awarded for each category and winners will be determined by the number of PWC Facebook likes and PWC website votes.
While the registration funds raised for this event will be used to help PWC continue to provide their programs and services, our hope is that this event adds more happiness during this holiday season as participants enjoy family baking time and voters enjoy seeing the wonderful gingerbread house creations.
Participants are encouraged to demonstrate their abilities while describing in a few words the inspiration and story behind their creation. Their story, along with a picture of the gingerbread house will be posted for all to see.
The viewing and voting process will take place between December 11 – 21, with two ways to vote:
• on the PWC Facebook page (enter one “Like” for one picture per category)
• on the PWC website: a voting form will be posted under the Fundraising Events section, Gingerbread House Competition.
Winners will be announced December 22 and will be contacted to receive their prize.
The PWC would like to thank all those who plan on participating this year as well as those who got involved last year. Janice Liebe, one of last year’s winners (individual/adult, family category), shared her opinion about 2020 competition:
“I really enjoyed the competition last year. I am a recently retired architect and am constantly looking for new creative outlets. Our Peachland museum is such a unique building that long before the competition was announced it seemed to me a perfect model for a gingerbread house. What a wonderful coincidence that the two thoughts came together. It was an exercise to get all the colliding geometries of the roof to work - thank goodness for the royal icing glue!!”
2020 has been a challenging year for non profit organizations who rely on donations. Become one of the 12 Donors of Christmas! Your donation to support PWC impacts our community by allowing us to help others.
Go to the PWC donation page at CanadaHelps.org, select the Donate Monthly option and then continue with your much appreciated on-going donation. You can also arrange for E-transfer to email@example.com, or call the Peachland Wellness Centre at (250) 767-0141 for assistance.
