PWC Connects: Tablet Drive

PWC is in the midst of our tablet drive! A 5-week initiative (May 5th-June 5th) to collect old or new tablets that will enable people to participate in PWC programs online. PWC is working hard to make sure that our participants feel connected to the community during this period of social distancing.

We currently have several programs up and running using the online platform Zoom! Programs presently running via zoom include the Sunshine Singers, Monday Morning Coffee and Men’s Coffee. We will add more programs to this list in the weeks to come!

The goal of our tablet drive is to ensure that participants of all ages can remain connected to the groups and activities that they enjoy. PWC is asking for donations of any used or new tablets. Donated tablets will be loaned to participants who do not have a device so that they can attend programs online and remain connected to their community. PWC is also accepting monetary donations at this time. Monetary donations will allow PWC to cover the costs of the technology necessary to facilitate online programming and make these programs accessible for all PWC participants.

PWC launched this campaign on Giving Tuesday Now, May 5th, 2020 and through the support of many we have obtained 11 devices so far. We are thrilled and grateful for these donations from members of the community as well as the donation of 3 new devices from the TELUS Connected for Good Program. Thanks to our Volunteer, Jim who is a retired TELUS employee and initiated this donation for PWC. These new tablets will be arriving soon. The used devices we have received are in the hands of our tech volunteer as he prepares them for use.

Given the recent changes announced by the BC Government, PWC will continue to offer programs online throughout the summer. We hope to have staff and administrative volunteers back in the building soon to facilitate our online programs and provide support to the community.

Current projections indicate that a second wave of COVID-19 and emergency measures is likely. With your donation, we will have the tools necessary to keep our participants connected during a second wave of social distancing and emergency measures.

If you or someone you know would welcome some social connections through one of the PWC online programs please contact us. Thank you for supporting PWC so that we can support the Peachland community.
