Gifts in Memory

Honour someone special by making a donation in their memory. When you make a memorial donation for a loved one or friend, PWC will post a message on your behalf to the family acknowledging your thoughtful gift. By choosing to celebrate the life of a loved one through a memorial donation, you inspire and enable PWC to positively impact members of our community.

Planned Giving - Wills and Bequests

​

Planned Giving is an incredible way to help PWC change the lives of Peachlanders for generations to come. It is the process of arranging, with your lawyer or financial advisor, a contribution to PWC that is allocated at a future date. Most often granted once the donor has passed away, planned gifts are usually donated through a bequest (bequeathing or leaving by will).

Here are two simple ways that you can put a charitable gift in your Will:

1.  You can name the residue of your estate as a whole or as a portion using percentages. The residue is what remains after taxes, administrative expenses and your heirs have received their specific gifts of proportion. An advantage is that as your circumstances change, your Will does not have to be altered, as the proportion remains the same.

Sample wording: "I bequeath the residue of my Estate (or__% of the residue of my Estate) to The Peachland Wellness Centre Society".

2. Another way is to name a specific amount.

​

Sample wording: "I give $___ to support the work of the Peachland Wellness Centre Society".

Donating Publicly Traded Securities

​

The gift of securities (cash/bonds/stocks/mutual funds) to The Peachland Wellness Centre Society is one of the most financially sound ways to support us. When you donate stocks, mutual funds or other types of securities to a charity, you pay no capital gains tax. You will also receive a tax receipt for the full amount of the gift. Giving Retirement Plans

​

If you own registered plans (RRSPs and RRIFs) when you pass away, the full amount of the plans is included as income on your final tax return. This can result in the loss of up to half of the value of your savings. Naming PWC as a beneficiary of your plans will give you a charitable donation tax credit, which can be used to offset income taxes owed by your estate. The estate also saves on probate fees, as assets left directly to beneficiaries are not included in the value of the estate.

A Gift of Life Insurance

​

Many people purchase life insurance to ensure financial stability should something happen. But as a family evolves, so do your needs for protection. If a family situation has changed (e.g. your dependents have become independent), you may want to consider donating it to the Peachland Wellness Centre. When you name PWC as beneficiary, it receives the death benefit and issues a donation tax receipt to your estate. When you transfer ownership of a policy to a charity during your lifetime, you will enjoy the tax benefit and the charity receives the future payout. You can donate a policy you already own, make Peachland Wellness Centre beneficiary of a joint policy held with your spouse, or buy a new policy to donate.

Donating Real Estate

​

Consider donating residential, commercial or underdeveloped real estate and provide support for expanded Community Gardens or expanded locations for PWC Programs and Services, while saving on taxes and reducing responsibilities associated with property ownership. You can donate your property outright, or you can give the title of your home now and retain the right to live there for your lifetime.
